Spic & Span

It is recommended to soak Spic and Span gladiolus bulbs before planting them. Soaking the bulbs helps to speed up the germination process and encourages healthy root growth. Although soaking can be beneficial, it is not a must to do. It can be a good thing when your Gladiolus bulbs look dry, otherwise it is not per se necessary.

Spic and Span gladiolus bulbs thrive in well-draining soil with full sun exposure. It is best to plant them in a location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. The soil should be rich in organic matter and have a pH of 6.0 to 7.0.

It is important to ensure that the soil does not become waterlogged, as gladiolus bulbs can rot in excessively wet conditions. Plant the bulbs 4 inches deep and 4-6 inches apart, with the pointed end facing up. Spic and Span gladiolus bulbs are suitable for garden beds, borders, or containers, and can add a splash of color to any outdoor space.

Staking or trellising can help Gladioli grow straight by providing support for their tall and sometimes top-heavy stems. To stake Gladioli, you will need stakes that are about 2-3 feet tall and 1/2 inch in diameter. Insert the stake into the soil near the base of the Gladiolus plant and tie the stem to the stake using a soft tie or twine, making sure not to damage the stem.

As the plant grows, adjust the tie to keep the stem straight. Trellising involves using a framework of horizontal and vertical wires to provide support for multiple Gladiolus plants. Both methods help prevent the plant from bending or breaking under its own weight and can result in straight, healthy growth.
