Frequently Asked Questions

The answer to this question depends on a few factors, like the amount of sun it receives, or if it rained recently. But also if the dahlia is planted in a pot or in the full ground. They do like to have a consistent water supply, but in general, it is not needed to water Cambridge everynday.

As a thumb rule, you can water them 2-3 times a week. But, this depends on the amount of sunshine it gets and the climate. If you live in a warm area, then you should water it more often. Has it rained the last couple of days/ weeks? Then skip the watering for one time.
If you’re not sure when to water your dahlias, feel if the top half inch of the soil is moistened or damp because then there is no need for water. If it feels dry, you should water your Dahlias.

Cambridge dahlias are not hard to grow if you follow a few simple steps. The first step is also the most important one, and that is finding a nice spot where the Cambridge dahlias get plenty of sun. In case you didn't know, Dahlias thrive in warm climates under the sun.

The second and third step is right after when you planted the Cambridge dahlia tubers and that is to water them thoroughly and fertilize them. It is best to water them 2-3 times a week (depending on the weather and amount of sun it gets) and to fertilize them every 2-4 weeks. The last step is to remove spent flowers so that the plant can focus its energy on making new blooms.

Cambridge dahlias do not specifically like deep pots, because you need to plant all of the dahlia varieties just a few inches under the soil. Please do not bury your dahlia tubers! It is important that the pots and containers are wide enough for the Cambridge dahlias as they will grow as wide as approximately 24 inches.

So a pot of 12-14 inches will be fine, as long as you don’t plant more than one tuber in that pot. Make sure the pot or container has good drainage because if the tuber sits too long in the water, it will rot. This will eventually lead to a shorter lifespan or even worse, to the death of the Cambridge dahlia.

This totally depends on the size of the pot or container of course. But like we said in the question above, you need a 12-14 inch pot for one Cambridge dahlia tuber. It is a personal choice how many Cambridge dahlias you want because some like the simplicity of one dahlia and some want more dahlias for a showy effect.

Use the following thumb rule: you’ll need a 12-14 inch pot for one Cambridge dahlia. So if you want more dahlias in one pot, then use a bigger pot. And it’s up to you if you want one dahlia per pot, or if you want multiple dahlias per pot, but don’t forget the thumb rule! If you’re not sure about the size, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
